Farmers complain of irregularities in DPCs

February 18, 2012 03:50 pm | Updated 03:50 pm IST - MADURAI:

District Collector U. Sagayam has assured the farmers that steps would be taken to set right the complaints pointed out in select Direct Procurement Centres in the district.

The farmers' grievance day meeting was held at the Collectorate here on Friday. A majority of the speakers had different tales to convey. Due to power interruptions, there were irregularities in weighing the produce. Similarly, some staff at the DPCs demanded money as “commission” only after which their produce was taken on the same day and payment made.

After hearing the grievances, Mr. Sagayam said that a committee would be formed and tahsildars in the respective jurisdiction would monitor the daily functioning of the DPCs closely and report to the district administration. Similarly, it was also agreed to start the DPCs as early as possible since the power failure halted the sale proceedings for long hours in many hamlets, a press release said.
