“Expedite enquiry into child death case”

January 15, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:50 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench here has directed Perunali police in Ramanathapuram district to expedite the investigation into the 2010 mysterious child death case and file a final report before the lower court concerned as early as possible.

Disposing of a petition seeking transfer of investigation to some other agency, Justice C.T. Selvam said it was an unfortunate case where a six-year-old girl child’s body was found, two days after she went missing, with external injuries in a bush near her residence on August 16, 2010. Even after four years of the incident, the police could not make a breakthrough in the case despite examination of 60 witnesses and an order passed by the High Court directing a Deputy Superintendent of Police to monitor the investigation, the judge added.
