The Indus Entrepreneurs (TiE) Chennai, an entrepreneurship development organisation, will conduct the preliminary round for “PitchFest 2014” in the Madurai region on September 27.

In a press meet here on Tuesday, Lakshmi Narayanan, president of TiE Chennai and vice-chairman of Cognizant, said that PitchFest would serve as a platform for young entrepreneurs to present their business ideas to investors, charter members, early stage venture capitalists and banks to get funding.

PitchFest is being organised for the fourth time in Tamil Nadu and the second time in Madurai.

“This year, we will also identify potential billion dollar companies and present them awards. TiE has been expanding out of Chennai for the past two years and Madurai is one of the important places, where we are trying to connect entrepreneurs with investors,” Mr. Narayanan said.

According to Subramaniam Iyer, chairman of PitchFest committee, the event will be conducted in Salem, Tuticorin and Chennai as well.

A few entrepreneurs from all four regions will be selected for the finals to be conducted in Chennai on October 31.

Last year, the committee received nearly 150 applications from all regions, from which 27 took part in the finals. Three teams from Madurai region made it to the finals, he added.

“This year we are hoping to get more people from this region for the finals. A master class will be conducted for the participants before the qualifiers,” he said.
