Establish SC Bench in South India: K.N. Basha

November 11, 2013 11:52 am | Updated 11:52 am IST - DINDIGUL:

Lawyers and police should have a cordial relationship. Advocates should be compatible for effective functioning of courts, said former High Court Judge K.N. Basha.

Inaugurating 10th State-level conference of All India Bar Association held here on Saturday, he said that cordial relationship between the police and the lawyers was necessary for offering better service to the society. Judges could render speedy justice only when lawyers presented the case and argued effectively. Coordination and cooperation of lawyers was necessary for speedy justice.

Moreover, best arguments of lawyers alone will help judges deliver best judgments. “Lawyers will not achieve anything through court boycotts. Only young lawyers will be affected by frequent boycotts. They should not engage in court boycott.” At the same time, lawyers should fight for social causes. They could fight against atrocities against women and children and strive hard to protect women and child rights.

The police too should show that they were not against lawyers. There was no need to arrest persons in all cases.

The police should decide whether the arrest was necessary or not in a particular case. Already, the Supreme Court had expressed its concern over unwanted arrests.
