Sleuths from Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Friday evening raided the office of S. Arasu, City Engineer, Madurai Corporation, and seized ₹ 2.51 lakh of unaccounted money.

According to sources in the DVAC, the money was seized from the table drawers and cupboards in the office. Mr. Arasu, his personal assistant Manoharan and computer operator Chandramohan were present when DVAC carried out the surprise raid.

The team from DVAC was led by District Inspection Cell Officer Saravanan. During enquiry, a source from the DVAC said that Mr. Manoharan and Mr. Chandramohan had reportedly confessed to have collected the money from a few contractors of Madurai Corporation.

Mr. Arasu, however, had allegedly denied knowledge of how the seized money was present in his office. Interrogation of the trio was going on till late on Friday night, DVAC officials said.
