AIADMK co-coordinator and Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami said the DMK was an opportunistic party without any concrete Prime Ministerial candidate.

“How will the people choose from the opposite camp if they do not know their future PM?” he asked at a pit stop during his campaign at Sellur here on Friday.

Seeking votes for V V R Raj Sathyan, the candidate contesting for Madurai Lok Sabha seat on ‘two-leaves’ symbol, Mr. Palaniswami said that the United Progressive Alliance (UPA) was unclear whether Congress president Rahul Gandhi will be their PM candidate or someone else.

“The DMK leader Stalin endorses Rahul Gandhi for the top job. However, we can see that AP Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati also harbour similar dreams,” he said.

He added that the AIADMK-BJP-PMK alliance in Tamil Nadu will back Prime Minister Narendra Modi as their candidate as he will ensure national security. He added that Tamil Nadu excelled in providing higher education to its students, electricity in households and helped execute good governance thanks to the support from the Central government.

“A total of ₹ 60 lakh has been allocated for the desilting and renovation of Sellur tank. Madurai will soon be an example to all other cities in Tamil Nadu as it would have all basic amenities, including 24-hour water supply in all wards,” he said.

Mr. Palaniswami pointed out the distribution of ₹ 1,000 for ration card holders during Pongal season as gift. He added that the provision of special assistance (distribution of ₹ 2,000 for 60 lakh families below the poverty line) will resume with the conclusion of the Lok Sabha elections.

He said that Mr. Raj Sathyan would ensure that Madurai’s needs are fulfilled.

Mr. Palaniswami campaigned in Palanganatham, Kattabomman statue, Keelavasal, Melur and Othakadai apart from Sellur. He also addressed a rally at K. Pudur. Minister Sellur Raju, MLA V V Rajan Chellappa also accompanied.
