March 01, 2012 11:55 pm | Updated 11:55 pm IST - MADURAI:

A Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam functionary was arrested on a land grab charge here on Thursday.

Following a complaint from Dwarakadas of Vivekanandar Street in Ponnagaram, Inspector General and Commissioner of Police P. Kannappan directed the police to register a case against Ochu Balu.

According to the complainant, Ochu Balu had taken the first floor of the petitioner's house on a monthly rent since his (Balu) house was under construction.

Though the latter had promised to vacate in about four months, he continued to remain in the petitioner's house without paying rent regularly, he alleged.

On investigation, the police realised that Balu and his relatives, on many occasions, abused and humiliated the complainant and told him to vacate the property failing which they threatened to eliminate him.
