Diploma Engineers Council releases booklet on dam

The Tamil Nadu Diploma Engineers Council (DECT) on Saturday organised a felicitation for R. Murugesan, Vice-Chancellor, Anna University of Technology, Madurai on his election as president of Indian Society of Technical Education (ISTE), New Delhi.

The organisers in their felicitation stated that it was after a gap of 15 years, a Tamil Nadu-based academician has been elected to the top post of the professional body. There are about 1,022 faculty chapters and 1,124 students' chapters throughout the country for which the Madurai-based Vice Chancellor will be the head.

On the occasion a booklet which talks about the historical details of Mullaperiyar Dam, ‘Mullaperiyar Dam Issue: A New Perspective' was released by former Corporation Chief Engineer K. Sakthivel. Through the booklet, DECT demanded that a re-survey should be done with modern techniques using the Government of India Survey Sheet to prevent trespassing, survey should also be done for executing ‘Irrigation cum Hydro Electric Scheme,' Tamil Nadu government should write to Kerala government demanding exception for Mullaperiyar Dam from the Irrigation and Water Conservation Amendment Act.

The felicitation event was presided over by R. Gnanapandithan, president, DECT, S. Leelavathi, president, Tamil Nadu Engineers Association, Madurai, welcomed the gathering and M. Kutralingam proposed vote of thanks.
