Thousands of people thronged Sri Meenakshi Sundareshwarar Temple here on Saturday evening to see the grand ‘golu’ that has been arranged as part of the Navarathri celebrations.

The celebrations and the ‘golu’ were formally inaugurated by temple ‘Thakkar’ Karumuttu T Kannan.

The ‘golu’ depicting the theme ‘Sarvam Bhakti Mayam’ has various sets of dolls arranged across 16 separate bays with three steps each along the left side of the second corridor near the sanctum sanctorum of the Goddess.

Bays for ‘vaahanas’

The other side of the corridor too has bays where different ‘vaahanas’ or vehicles, which are taken out during the temple processions, are kept on display. The other special features of the arrangement are intricately designed three-dimensional models of the temple and the Mariamman Teppakulam. Replicas of the temple car and the temple ‘vaahanas’ too have been moving around the temple models, powered by electric connection.

“We have volunteers to manage the crowds. The initial response has been extremely positive and we are expecting more people over the next few days,” a temple official said.
