Gold abandoned in aircraft recovered

MADURAI

Air intelligence unit of Customs department on Tuesday recovered ₹10.54 lakh worth gold abandoned inside the SpiceJet aircraft that arrived at Madurai airport from Colombo.

According to customs sources, its Assistant Commissioner A. Venkadesh Babu led a team of officials for rummaging inside the aircraft as it landed at the airport. The officials found clay material wrapped in an adhesive tape and kept inside one of the seat pouches. The officials extracted around 450 grams of gold that was mixed with clay in the form of powder.
