The city police on Sunday arrested a couple from Erode for allegedly cheating four doctors to the tune of Rs. 10 lakh on the promise of giving them insurance coverage with higher monetary returns.
The police identified the accused as K. Radhika (30) and her husband C.S. Karthik (32).
Anna Nagar police had registered a case of cheating against the woman based on a complaint from the public relations officer of a hospital at Sivaganga Road-Ring Road junction.
The complaint said that a doctor of the hospital was cheated to the tune of Rs. 2.5 lakh by the woman who promised higher returns for insurance.
Later, three more doctors from Anna Nagar, Teppakulam and S.S. Colony made similar complaints.
Based on the direction of Commissioner of Police Shailesh Kumar Yadav, Anna Nagar police started searching for the woman.
The couple were later traced to Erode, Anna Nagar Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) S. Narayanan said.
The woman had worked with a nationalised bank. She had married Karthik, manager of a private insurance firm.
“To lead a sophisticated life, the couple started cheating people with a fake identity of another insurance company,” the police said. Two cars were seized from them.
The police produced them before a court which remanded them in judicial custody.
