A couple was found dead with their bodies hanging from the ceiling in their house at Nagamalai Pudukottai on Monday.

Police identified the deceased as K. Venkatasubramanian, 41, and Pattu Meenakshi, 35. Stating that their bodies were in a highly decomposed state, the police suspect that they could have ended their lives at least four days back.

The police said that the man, a post-doctoral degree holder, and the woman had an inter-caste marriage. Married for nearly seven years, they did not have any children.

The police found two notes left behind by them in which they have said that they had taken the extreme step on their own. In a note to the landlord of the rented house in which they were staying, they apologised for ending their lives in his home and asked him to collect their household articles as compensation, the police said.

The bodies have been shifted to Government Rajaji hospital for postmortem.

Assistance for overcoming suicidal thoughts is available on the State’s health helpline ‘104’ and Sneha’s suicide prevention helpline 044 24640050.
