Corneal surgeon bags two international awards

Lional Raj, Regional Medical Director of Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital, Tirunelveli, has bagged two scientific research awards in the recently held American Society of Cornea and Refractory Surgery (ASCRS) in San Diego, California.

His first award-winning research, ‘Cross-linked donor corneas resist infections and melts in Boston Type 1 keratoprosthesis – a case series’ focuses on corneal transplantation using cross linking procedure in donor cornea to reduce infection rate.

The second research paper deals with ‘Femto assisted cross linking in dampening progression of keratoconus: A longitudinal Study’, which is on keratoconus patients using femto laser cross-linking to prevent progression of the disease.

Dr. Lional has won 10 international awards over the last two years for his research work, which is a record in ophthalmic researches. He has been working on several other research areas related to prevention of blindness, an official statement from Dr. Agarwal’s Eye Hospital said.
