Collector S. Natarajan reviews means available to bring freshwater into Saravana Poigai in Tirupparankundram.

Avoid using all forms of single-use plastic goods, said Collector S. Natarajan while interacting with members of resident welfare associations of Kuruvikaran Salai and Pankajam Colony on Friday.

After an inspection of these areas, the Collector said dengue could be completely eradicated if plastic goods were not mindlessly thrown around, as mosquitoes breed on rainwater collected in them. He also directed a mass clean-up of the two areas by Domestic Breeding Checkers.

The Collector also visited Saravana Poigai in Tirupparankundram and discussed ways to divert freshwater into the pond.

He asked the Public Works Department authorities and Temple administration members to keep the area and the water clean. The Collector suggested diverting Vaigai river water that flows to Nilayur channel to be rerouted to Saravana Poigai. He also asked the authorities to clear blocks and inlet channels leading to the pond.

Mr. Natarajan also inspected Mariamman Teppakulam and inaugurated a modern gym in Reserve Line. The gym was established under Self Sufficiency Scheme - the government gave ₹6 lakh through District Rural Development Agency and the residents contributed ₹3 lakh. Commissioner of Police S. Davidson Devasirvatham took part in the inauguration ceremony.
