Collector Anshul Mishra, during an inspection of Aavin milk sales outlets and shops selling milk packets here on Tuesday, detected various irregularities.

Following complaints from consumers on the functioning of the depots in the city and its peripheries, the Collector, accompanied by South Tahsildar P. Muruganandam and his two deputies Ilamurugan and Gopinath, inspected Aavin outlets at KK Nagar, Lourdu Nagar, K. Pudur, Melamadai among other places.

At 6 a.m., the team arrived at the KK Nagar shop. Enquiries with the salesman revealed that he was selling Aavin half-litre milk packets in bulk through boys who made door deliverey to residents in the area and earned one rupee more per packet. This racket was going on on a monthly basis.

At a milk depot near Wakf Board College also the Collector found irregularities in sale. The seized milk packets were handed over to the Aavin authorities for action as per law.

When Mr. Mishra visited Melamadai outlet, Pudur bus terminus outlet and a few others in Lourdu Nagar among other places, he found them locked. He wanted an explanation from the authorities for the outlets remaining closed.

In K. Pudur Madha Koil Street, the officials checked three grocery shops and found that the shopkeepers sold the packets at an inflated price. In some other shops also they found the milk pockets stored in refrigerators. Some of the shopkeepers admitted that it was illegal to sell the milk at a price above the MRP. The Collector warned them of legal action, a press release said.
