‘Close defunct borewells’

More than men, womenfolk participated in large numbers in the gram sabha meetings held in the district on Friday.

Marking the Gandhi Jayanthi, the district administration appealed to all the village panchayat presidents to hold the gram sabha meetings and discuss threadbare the needs of the locality and review on the finance and among others. According to reports reaching the district headquarters, the meetings were held in as many as 420 village panchayats during the day. Collector L. Subramanian, who participated in a meeting in Achampatti near Alanganallur as an observer, learnt that the villagers were keen on keeping their surroundings clean. Many understood about the ‘Swachh Bharat’ initiative and took a pledge towards clean environ.

Womenfolk raised a point to identify defunct borewells and wanted them to be closed as early as possible.
