A chopped head floating on the Tamirabharani triggered panic among bathers near Thazhaiyoothu on Thursday.
Residents of various villages around Thazhaiyoothu were taking bath in the Tamirabharani at Naranammalpuramwhen they saw a palmyrah fruit-like object floating on the river at a distance. As it came closer, they found that it was the chopped head of a 40-year-old man.
While women and children ran helter-skelter, the youth informed Thazhaiyoothu police. The decomposed head was sent to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital after the police arrived at the spot.
