The district administration and the police have announced changed traffic arrangements for volunteers coming in their own vehicles via Parthibanur, Kamuthakudi to pay homage to Dalit leader Immanuel Sekaran at his memorial in Paramakudi on the occasion of his 61st death anniversary on September 11.
Changing the earlier decision to divert the vehicles at Thelichathanallur junction to the newly laid by-pass road on the outskirts of Paramakudi, the police have decided to allow the vehicles to proceed up to Ottapalam and return back on the by-pass road after parking their vehicles on Alagappa University constituent college campus near the railway crossing.
Considering representations from Devendra Kula Panpattu Kazhagam and other organisations, Collector K. Veera Raghava Rao and Superintendent of Police Omprakash Meena ordered the change of traffic arrangement in the interest of volunteers and general public.
Accordingly, those coming in vehicles via Parthibanur and Kamuthakudi could get dropped at Ottapalam, after which, the empty vehicles would reach the parking bay at the college campus, using the flyover from ‘Y’ junction, Paramakudi town police station and passing through Ponnaiyapuram and memorial road.
After paying homage, the memorial should walk up to the parking bay and return using the four-lane by-pass road up to Thelichathanallur junction and from there on the usual route, the police said.
Volunteers coming by their own vehicles from Mudukulathur should get dropped at Ponnaiyapuram, after which, the empty vehicles should be parked in the college campus. The volunteers should walk down to the five-point junction, using the flyover. After paying homage, they should return via by-pass road to reach Mudukulathur road, the police said.
Volunteers coming from Ilayankudi should get dropped at Y road junction, after which, the empty vehicles would be parked on the college campus. In the return direction, they should reach Thelichathanallur junction via by-pass road and from there to the Aartupalam via Kaattu Paramakudi and Ottapalam, the police said.
Those coming from Ramanathapuram, Nainarkoil and Pandiyur should park their vehicles Sandaipettai, near Krishna theatre and return back on the same route after paying homage, the police added.
