Members belonging to the Karikali Chettinad Cement Contract Labourers Association, staged a protest outside the Labour Welfare Commission, inside the Dindigul Collectorate campus, here on Monday, putting forth a set of demands.

Their demands, included benefits like Provident Fund and ESI, assistance for people who lost their lives while at work in the cement factory and bonus for all labourers as per Government standard. They also demanded that qualifying contract labourers should be made permanent and a canteen be set up for them to offer food at subsidised rates.

The demo was supported by CPI district unit and AITUC. District secretary of CPI, Manikandan and M. Selvaraj, president of the association, lead the demonstration.
