The All Women Police, investigating the ‘minor girl rape case’ has handed over the investigation to the Sivaganga unit of the Crime Branch CID police on the orders of the Director-General of Police.

After Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Vandita Pandey completed her enquiry with the victim, corroborating her statement made before a Magistrate under Section 164 Cr PC for the purpose of identifying other accused in the case, Superintendent of Police M Durai recommended to the DGP that the case be transferred to the CB-CID.

Ms. Pandey met the DGP and briefed him on the case, sources said. Hours after the DGP passed the order, the case was handed over to the CB-CID police here on Wednesday, the sources said.

A woman Inspector of Police has been appointed as investigating officer in the case, they added.

The All Women Police, which launched an investigation on the orders of Madras High Court last week, arrested six accused, including a Sub Inspector of police, a conductor of the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation and a DMK functionary.

Ms. Pandey has identified 18 more accused, who were at large, the sources said. Those named by the victim included two male doctors who performed abortion, an advocate and her maternal grandfather.

The girl has also accused her aunt of forcing her into ‘prostitution’.
