CB-CID gets time till July 24 to solve Ramajeyam case

June 13, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 07:50 am IST - MADURAI:

The Madras High Court Bench here on Friday granted time till July 24 to Crime Branch-CID for cracking the murder case of K.N. Ramajeyam, brother of former Transport Minister K.N. Nehru, whose body was recovered with severe head injuries on the banks of Cauvery in Tiruchi district on March 29, 2012.

Justice S. Nagamuthu passed the order after Additional Advocate General K. Chellapandian contended that the police were closing in on the accused.

“We are almost there and there is every possibility of solving the case in the near future. The labour put in by the CB-CID sleuths for the last three years would go waste if the case was now transferred to the CBI,” he said.

Accepting his submissions, the judge ordered that the CB-CID should file a report on the date of next hearing explaining in detail the progress made by them in the case.

He also directed CB-CID Superintendent of Police T.S. Anbu to be present in the court on July 24 to assist it in taking a decision on the plea made by the wife of the deceased to transfer the investigation to CBI.

Stalin seeks CBI probe

In Tiruchi, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam treasurer M.K. Stalin reiterated the demand for a CBI probe into the murder of Ramajeyam. In a brief interaction with reporters, Mr. Stalin said the party has been demanding a CBI probe. “Only a CBI probe will bring out the truth,” he said.
