Sivaganga All Women Police have arrested a 16-year-old boy under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl at a place under Salaigramam police limits.

The police said the girl, studying Class V in a local school, was alone at her house on Monday when the boy, her neighbour, studying Class X, allegedly sexually assaulted her. Acting on a complaint lodged by the girl’s mother, the police arrested him on Tuesday under Section 6 read with Section 5(i) (l) (m) of the POCSO Act and Section 376 (rape) of the Indian Penal Code.

The boy was produced before the Juvenile Justice Court here and remanded in the Government Observation Home in Tirunelveli. The girl was undergoing treatment at Sivaganga Government Medical College Hospital, the police said.
