People of Tamil Nadu should vote out both Bhartiya Janata Party-led Government in the Centre and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam Government in the State that failed to give protection to women of the country, said Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader Brinda Karat.

She was addressing a campaign meeting at Othakadai here seeking votes for her party candidate for Madurai Lok Sabha constituency Su. Venkatesan on Friday.

Ms. Brinda said that late Chief Minister Jayalalithaa had taken on the then BJP Prime Ministerial candidate Narendra Modi stating that the challenge was between “The Lady and Modi”.

However, after her death, the Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami and Deputy Chief Minister O. Pannerselvam had come up the idea of aligning with “Daddy (Modi)”.

The last five-year rule of BJP has witnessed the highest number of suicides by farmers in the agrarian country of India. “It was because the Modi Government betrayed the farmers by not giving minimum support price for agricultural produce. But, now it was trying to give crumbs to farmers,” she said.

The Government that gave ₹11 lakh crore bank loans to big corporates said that it had no money for the farmers. The Food Security Act that was brought by the United Progressive Alliance was destroyed by using Aadhaar.

“People whose biometric identity did not match with the data were denied ration,” she accused.

“The AIADMK Government did not raise its voice against such an atrocity,” she said.

Alleging the Scheduled Castes Sub Plan is a very important component of Rights of Dalit community, she said that ₹2 lakh crore that should have come to the SC Sub Plan was destroyed. “When Dalits protested, they were jailed. That is the record of this Government,” she said.

While the Government had promised to provide 2 crore jobs in five years, demonitsation led to 1.1 crore people lose jobs. Besides, implementation of GST wiped out a large number of small and marginal traders.

In a country with 55% of female population, four women were sexually assaulted every hour in the country in the last five years. “The conviction rates in offences against women was low. Besides, the BJP men were on the streets to protect the perpetrators of sexual abuse against a minor girl at Kathuva,” she said.

She charged that Mr. Modi remained silent when atrocities were unleashed against Dalits, minorities and women.

Similarly, in Pollachi sexual abuse case brought shame to a State like Tamil Nadu, she added. People should defeat them in all 39 Lok Sabha constituencies and by elections for 18 Assembly constituencies.

Ms. Brinda said that Mr. Venkatesan will fight for protecting the culture and language in Parliament.
