Back to school for a new beginning

The school campuses were abuzz with activity from the morning as the students interacted with each other after a month of summer holidays.

The atmosphere was one of anticipation and excitement in schools in the city which reopened for the start of the new academic year on Monday.

The school campuses were abuzz with activity from the morning as the students interacted with each other after a month of summer holidays, looking forward to starting a new academic yea.

While there were initially talks of extending the holidays and reopening schools on June 8 due to the summer heat, most schools stuck to their original schedule and began classes on Monday.

At the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Y. Othakadai, Naraisingham Panchayat, District Collector L. Subramanian distributed notebooks, school bags, uniforms and geometry boxes to the students, who are eligible for it under the various schemes introduced by the State government.

He addressed the students on the importance of focussing on academics and also encouraged them to do well in the public examinations.

For the 17,412 students studying in 64 corporation schools in the city comprising of 26 primary schools, 14 middle schools, 9 high schools and 15 higher secondary schools also free notebooks, uniforms and stationery were given as part of the State government schemes.
