Award conferred on violin artiste

The award was presented to Mr. Subramaniyam in the presence of Tiruvarur Bakthavatsalam and S. Mohan Gandhi, trustee, Tamil Isai Sangam.

Sankara-Boopathy Award, which carries a citation and Rs 10, 000, was presented to veteran violinist V. V. Subramaniyam at the annual C. S. Sankarasivam-C. S. Muruga Boopathy memorial music festival here on Saturday.

The award was presented to Mr. Subramaniyam in the presence of Tiruvarur Bakthavatsalam and S. Mohan Gandhi, trustee, Tamil Isai Sangam.

Music festival

Earlier, on Friday, the award was conferred on vocalist Geetha Rajashekar by R. Thirunavukkarasu, Deputy Commissioner of Police.

The two-day annual C. S. Sankarasivam-C. S. Muruga Boopathy memorial music festival, featured music performances by leading and upcoming artistes.

The festival also marked the birth centenary celebrations of Madurai R. Mani Iyer, T. Brinda, Mayavaram Govindaraja Pillai, Palghat T. S. Mani Iyer and Aduthurai Srinivasa Iyer.

The music festival was organised by Madurai Sankara Boopathy Trust in association with Chennai Raga Laya Trust.

The secretary of Sankara Boopathy Trust, D. Lakshmanaraj, welcomed the gathering and T. S. Vincent Isai Rajan, joint secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
