ANDIPATTI

The cadre of Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, led by district party secretary Thanga Tamilselvan, staged a protest near Muthuramalinga Thevar statue here on Thursday, demanding removal of the flex boards and banners put up by AIADMK functionaries near the ones installed by them.

The AMMK cadre had put up banners announcing their plan to observe a fast in Andipatti on November 10 to condemn the State government for “ignoring the 18 Assembly constituencies where the supporters of AMMK deputy general secretary T.T.V. Dhinakaran got elected”.

The AIADMK men installed flex boards and banners, close to the banners put up by the AMMK cadre, announcing a party workers’ meeting in Andipatti on November 11.

On Thursday, Mr. Thanga Tamilselvan and his supporters resorted to a flash stir near Thevar statue, taking the police by surprise. The police tried to disperse the protesters, but the disqualified MLA refused to move away unless the banners and flex boards installed by AIADMK men were removed.

Then, Mr. Thanga Tamilselvan and his party men blocked vehicle movement on the road and announced that they would sleep on the road pressing for their demand.

Senior police officers rushed to the spot and assured the protesters that the banners put by AIADMK functionaries would be removed, following which they dispersed.

A large number of police personnel have been deployed in and around Andipatti to avoid any untoward incident.
