AIMMK to align with party giving 10 seats

October 12, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 09:11 am IST - MADURAI:

Hinting that it was distancing itself from the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led alliance, All India Moovender Munnani Kazhagam (AIMMK) has announced that it would align only with a party that would give it 10 seats in the next Assembly elections.

The party’s founder leader, N. Sethuraman, said that the executive committee meeting held here on Sunday expelled party general secretary S. Esakkimuthu. Mr. Esakkimuthu was the lone party candidate who got an opportunity to contest the Assembly elections in 2011 from Tiruchuli constituency in Virudhunagar district.

Dr. Sethuraman said that some political forces were trying to split his party. “Both the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) did not allow other parties to flourish in the State,” he said.

Stating that his party continued to be in the AIADMK-led front, he said neither the AIADMK had removed his party from the alliance nor had his party come out of it.
