An Assistant Engineer of Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation, Palpandian, was arrested on Wednesday on charges of demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹1,000 at Dhalavaipuram office.
Sources in the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption said Palpandian had demanded the money from one Ramkumar for changing the tariff of the power connection to his house. Mr. Ramkumar had got a temporary power connection for constructing a house. He sought to convert it into regular connection with residential tariff on completion of the construction work.
Based on his complaint, the DVAC sleuths registered a case and laid a trap. Palpandian was arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
