Advocates seek action on charges made by Acharya

May 23, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Madurai:

A group of advocates representing the Centre for Lawyers for Social Justice has appealed to the Karnataka government to file a first information report on the charges of “threat and pressure” by supporters and followers of All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam general secretary Jayalalithaa and members of the Bharatiya Janata Party made by B.V. Acharya, Special Public Prosecutor in the disproportionate assets case against Ms. Jayalalithaa.

Addressing a press conference here on Friday, P. Rathinam, advocate, wanted the Karnataka government to file an FIR on the basis of the narration found in Chapter XXV of All From Memory , the autobiography of Mr. Acharya.

The threats and pressure amounted to a calculated attack on the judicial system and hence a special investigation team should be formed for follow-up action as per law.

Mr. Rathinam said a memorandum seeking an investigation had been submitted to the Chief Minister of Karnataka. He appealed to the Union government to give its full support and cooperation for effective investigation.
