Additional polling booths identified in Madurai

In addition to the 2,687 polling stations in the district, 27 new booths had been identified, said Collector and District Election Officer K. Veera Raghava Rao while addressing an all-party meeting here on Wednesday.

Representatives from parties, including All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (Marxist), Indian National Congress, Bharatiya Janata Party and Pattali Makkal Katchi, were present at the meeting.

Each polling booth would have a maximum of 1,400 voters and for effective management and for the electorate to exercise the right comfortably, the Election Commission of India had proposed to identify and bifurcate polling booths which had more voters, he said, and added that public could give their suggestions and objections to the proposals.

Election Commission officials visited all 10 Assembly constituencies in Madurai district between June 21 and July 2 to ascertain the total number of voters.
