Activist Mukilan released from prison

MADURAI

Activist R.S. Mukilan, who had voiced his opinion against Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project was released from Madurai Central Prison on Wednesday. He had been in the Madurai prison since July 31 after he was transferred from Palayamkottai Central Prison.

Mukilan, who spent 374 days in prison, said he would now fight for the release of the seven life convicts in Rajiv Gandhi assassination case. He also called for a better treatment of prisoners from prison authorities, while addressing the media following his release from the prison.

Released from the prison on conditional bail, Mukilan has been asked to appear before the Judicial Magistrate II, Karur.

Recently, Madras High Court Judges M.M. Sundresh and N. Sathish Kumar, along with Chief Judicial Magistrate L.S. Sathiyamurthy, inspected the Madurai Central Prison to check the facilities available there and interacted with the inmates, including Mukilan.
