Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Monday summoned Pudukottai Collector, Revenue Divisional Officer and Tahsildar of Tirumayam, following a petition filed by villagers that they were denied access to a pond and well by an individual.

A Division Bench of Justices M. Sathyanarayanan and B. Pugalendhi summoned the officials and adjourned the hearing to July 29. The petitioner, Manickam from Kulamangalam in Thirumayam taluk of Pudukkottai district, had alleged that one Tamilarasan and his men were denying them access to a public pond and well.

The pond and well were the only sources of drinking water in the village. Tamilarasan claimed right over the entire pond after encroaching it, the petitioner said and sought a direction to remove the encroachment and protect the waterbody.
