A slight increase in pass percentage

Jeevana school student scores State second

With an increase of 0.53 per cent, 276 schools in Madurai district recorded a pass percentage of 92.87 per cent in the Plus Two examinations, results of which were announced on Thursday.

Of the 37,143 students who appeared, 34,495 had cleared the examinations with the pass percentage of girls being significantly higher at 96.66 per cent than the boys, who recorded 89.85 per cent.

In Madurai, which comprises of Madurai, Melur and Usilampatti educational districts, six government schools and seven government-aided schools recorded 100 per cent pass percentage, said K. Parvathi, Chief Educational Officer, Sarva Siksha Abhiyaan (SSA).

Multiple centums

R. Santosh from the CEOA Matriculation Higher Secondary School secured the first rank with 1,185 marks and scored centums in Chemistry and Mathematics. With centums in Economics, Commerce, Business Maths and Accountancy, S. Atchaya of St Josephs Matriculation Higher Secondary stood second in the district having scored 1184 marks and V. Jothisaran of CEOA Matric School stood third with 1183 marks comprising a centum in Maths.

S. Parvathy, a student of the Jeevana Matriculation Higher Secondary School, who had scored 1,193 marks, stood second in the State among students who had chosen languages other than Tamil. She had scored centum in Economics, Commerce, Accountancy and Business Maths. R. Priyadarshini from CEOA School who had scored 1,187 marks with centums in Computer Science and Mathematics, stood second.

While 301 students in the district have scored centums in Mathematics, 193 scored full marks in Accountancy.

The CEOA school campus reverberated with celebrations as three students had bagged ranks and scored centums. School chairman Raja Climax said that the institution discouraged students from going for tuitions and extra classes outside school which had helped them save time and learn better from their teachers. “We ensure that extra classes are conducted by the teachers themselves to help the students since there will be no redundancy or confusion if they learn from the same person,” he explained.

Usilampatti’s feat

Of the three educational districts, Usilampatti recorded the highest pass percentage of 94.52 per cent. In the class 12 public examination results which were announced on Thursday.

The Madurai Educational district, where 17,072 students passed of the 18,357 students who appeared for the examinations recorded a pass percentage of 91.63 per cent and Melur recorded a pass per centage of 92.99 per cent.
