A gesture of good Samaritan

When the need for financial assistance for a college boy, son of a life convict, was brought to the attention of Commissioner of Police Davidson Devasirvatham recently, he offered him monetary help to pay his semester fees.

The boy was apparently a kid when his father was sent to jail in a case. Despite poverty, he has finished schooling and is currently pursuing graduation in mathematics at a local college. However, he was struggling to pay his semester fees, when the timely help from the Commissioner arrived.

“This is a very small gesture. Often, children of convicts carry the tag of social stigma and under such circumstances, the boy’s effort and interest to study and come up in life are laudable,” said the Commissioner.

He added that more people should come forward to help children of convicts so that they would feel inclusive with society.

The Commissioner added that often school dropouts who are unable to continue education due to financial restraints turn to evil ways in life. A timely help could avert such students from taking to unlawful paths.
