Two daily wage workers sustained injuries in a police attack near Suchindram temple on Friday afternoon.
According to B. Barathi, Joint Commissioner of Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department, two workers engaged by a contractor to undertake a few minor repairs in the temple car ahead of the car festival had been reportedly attacked and thrashed by a team of policemen near the temple.
The incident took place when the workers appealed to the police party to park their vehicle just a few feet away from the temple car, saying that the vehicle would be damaged if anything fell inadvertently from the temple car.
Angered over this, the policemen along with a team of police personnel from Suchindram thrashed the workers and took them to the station.
Later, the workers were admitted to the Kanniyakumari Government Medical College Hospital at Asaripallam by the staff of HR and CE department.

Meanwhile, the Nagercoil RDO, A. Rajkumar and DSP Rathinavelu on Friday evening held peace talks on the temple premises and assured them to allow religious discourses till 10 p.m. as per the Supreme Court ruling.
