Planning Committee approves proposal for desilting, renovation of tanks

The District Planning Committee meeting was convened here on Wednesday at the Collectorate. Presiding over the meeting, N. Chinnadurai, Chairman, District Planning Committee, reviewed the progress of the works of various departments.

Under the National Agriculture Development Programme, the proposal to undertake desilting and renovation of a total of fifty two tanks in the district was approved for the next five years at an estimated cost of Rs. 29.24 crore.

Besides, the approval for renovating five tanks in 2010 – 11 was also given. It would be taken up at an outlay of Rs. 3.30 crore.

The renovation work under phase two of Bharat Nirman on 46 roads in various blocks of the district was in progress under the aegis of the Department of Rural Development. The relaying work of 31 roads was underway.

Priority was accorded to rebuilding of road infrastructure following field observation, said A. Kutralingam, Executive Engineer, Rural Development. The health care professionals had issued spectacles to the beneficiaries under Kalaignar Kannoli Kaapom Thittam and achieved the target, S. Uma, Deputy Director, Health service, said.

Mr. Chinnadurai also reviewed the works of other departments and urged the officials to expedite the task.
