The Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowment, K.R. Periakaruppan has called upon the Tamils to participate in the World Classical Tamil Conference to be held between June 23 and 27 in Coimbatore in large numbers.

Flagging off a ‘padayatra' with Mother Tamil crown at Devakottai near here on Saturday, he said the members of the yatra would cover several towns, cities and villages before culminating in Coimbatore.

They would create an awareness among the people of the need for them to make it to the conference.

It was a great opportunity for Tamils to gather in Coimbatore to recall the glory of the language, which has many unique characters. Mr. Periakaruppan said the Government had declared holidays for schools and colleges in order to enable teachers and others to participate in the conference.

It would take significant decisions for the development of Tamil.

Kundrakudi Ponnambala Adigalar, V.P. Duraisamy, Deputy Speaker, U. Mathivanan, Minister for Dairy, P. Thennavan, former Minister, and others spoke.
