PVC cables without ISI mark seized

Substantial quantities of PVC insulated cables without ISI mark and with bogus ISI mark were seized by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) in surprise raids conducted by officials in shops in Dharmapuri, Salem and Madurai districts.

According to a press release issued by the BSI, action was being initiated by the bureau under the BSI Act 1986 against these shop owners. As per the Act, the offence is punishable with imprisonment up to one year or a fine up to Rs.50,000 or both.

Public are requested that in case they come across any instance of misuse of ISI mark on any products, they could intimate the same to the BIS Southern Regional Office, CIT Campus, Taramani, Chennai - 113. Such complaints can also be made by sending e-mail to sro@bis.org.in or by fax to 044- 2254 1087, the release added.
