The district administration is planning to build two more “samathuvapurams” and officials are in the process of identifying suitable sites for this purpose, said Collector C. Kamaraj here on Tuesday.
After visiting some of the fair price shops in Othakadai, Melur and the recently opened samathuvapuram at Attapatti, he said that the district had seven “samathuvapurams” and the eighth unit was under construction at Pothampatti in Usilampatti sub-division.
It had been proposed to build two more “samathuvapurams” for which land is being identified.
Mr. Kamaraj inquired with the public whether they were getting essential commodities from the ration shops properly.

He advised the salesman in the shop to display the stock position.
At the Attapatti samathuvapuram, he spoke with some of the residents and based on their feedback, he ordered officials to ensure that all basic amenities were in place.
Under the MP Local Area Development Fund, community hall-cum-kalyana mandapams are coming up at three locations in the Lok Sabha constituency. Mr. Kamaraj inspected the works under way and checked whether they were progressing as per schedule.
The Collector informed that various development works would be taken up during this fiscal with funds to the tune of Rs 18.60 crore drawn from the MLAs and MPs constituency development fund, Namakku Naame Thittam and Anaithu Grama Anna Marumalarchi Thittam. As for the delay in completion of works that were taken up in the last fiscal, Mr. Kamaraj directed them to execute in about two months.
District Rural Development Agency Project Officer V. Pitchai, District Supply Officer Murugiah, Block Development Officers Maheswaran, Sakunthala and PRO Saravanan accompanied the Collector, the release added.
