A national conference on ‘Changing HR scenario in Service Sector' was held at the Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre here on Saturday and Sunday.
The two-day meet was organised jointly by the Madurai Chapter of National Institute of Personnel Management (NIPM), and the Federation of Hospital Administrators.
G. Baktavatchalam, Director, KG Hospitals, Coimbatore, and S. Kannan, Commissioner of Central Excise, participated in the inaugural function and spoke on various issues concerned with HR practices.
Human relationships, developing human resources and the issues/challenges involved in developing human resources in organisations were among the topics dealt at the inaugural session.
S. Venkateswaran of TVS Sri Chakra, who is the Organising Chairman of the conference, gave an overview of dealing with different HR aspects.
“Changes across the world are affecting the work because of a steadily empowered participative community. The changes call for new skills and responsive mechanisms are the order of the day,” he said.
Some of the issues discussed at the conference included leadership behaviour, working style, strategic thinking, networking, entrepreneurship, customer orientation, business versatility, change management and cultural sensitivity.
“Ability to inspire employees is vital for leadership and the working style must encompass strong values,” he observed.
N. Sethuraman, founder, Federation of Hospital Administrators and founder-chairman of Meenakshi Mission Hospital and Research Centre, said that deliberation on HR scenario in service sector is very importance since nearly 80 per cent of total employment is happening in this sector alone.
The participants in this conference are being exposed to innovations in HR practices, tuning human resources for organisational requirements, developing employee loyalty and employee satisfaction, reduction of stress to improve performance and live case studies.
Jayasekaran Pillai, Director, You and You, Bangalore, who is a HR practitioner, conducted a session on HR strategies with focus on enhancing one's capabilities and self-confidence.
