Mr. Sakthivel said that the equipment promoter, SRS Engineers, Coimbatore, have invested Rs. 95 lakh under the build-operate-transfer system. It will maintain the system for five years and take 95 per cent of the revenue saved on electricity bill. The remaining five per cent will go to the Corporation.

“The Corporation will save 33 per cent on electricity bill through regulating the voltage of streetlights. Besides, another 15 per cent of electricity bill could be saved by remotely switching on and off the lights at specific times programmed in the system,” Mr. Sakthivel said.

Besides, the system will detect non-functioning lights in the network.
