The increase in load shedding period from two hours to three hours was due to a sudden dip in wind power generation from 2300 megawatt to 100 megawatt, the Chief Engineer (Distribution), A. Nachadalingam, Tamil Nadu Electricity Board, said on Thursday.
In a press release, Mr. Nachadalingam explained that the TNEB had to resort to an increase in the period of load shedding from two hours to three hours or more in order to overcome the deficit and also protect the grid.
He said that the TNEB would revert to two-hour load shedding as power generation from windmills was expected to go up soon as also the hydro generation in view of monsoon. He appealed to the public to cooperate with the TNEB in its measures to overcome power deficit and said that the situation would improve in a couple of days.
