With the nationwide census for 2011 to begin on June 1, preliminary work for conducting the exercise is in full swing in the district.

To begin with, special training through EDUSAT commenced for 60 master trainers at SSA building here on Tuesday. The training will continue on April 8 and conclude on April 12. In turn, these master trainers will train all enumerators, mostly teachers, at DIET centres and SSA offices that have EDUSAT facility at Athoor, Batlagundu, Gujiliamparai, Dindigul Rural and Urban, Kodaikanal, Natham, Nilakottai, two centres at Oddanchatram, Palani Rural and Urban areas, Reddiyarchatram, Sanarpatti, Thoppampatty and Vedasandur from April 22 and May 21, said a census officer.

Household survey will conclude on July 15. The census work will be fully monitored by district and taluk level officers.

The census will be conducted in two phases.

In the first phase, trained enumerators will list out number of houses. In the second phase, enumeration of actual population will commence.

The State Commissioner for census and other census experts explained the purpose of census and guidelines to be followed by trainers through EDUSAT at the training session.

The enumerators will visit every household and collect all necessary information required for the census. They will also list number of persons in every house, whether they have electricity and drinking water supply, assets and number of vehicles they possess.

Statistics of individuals will be collected in the second phase, he added.
