It was a memorable day for the 1960 batch MBBS students of Madurai Medical College.

On Saturday, the then teenage students of that batch who were now retired and became grandfathers too met here along with their family members and recollected their student days, shared their experiences and strengthened their bond.

“Our friendship is now 50 years and we all wanted to celebrate that occasion. Some of our classmates came from abroad travelling to Madurai from various countries. It was a great occasion and an unforgettable experience in our life” said P. Advaitham, a senior medical gastroenterologist, who studied in that MBBS batch in Madurai.

Meeting old classmates after a long gap was indeed a moment to cherish.

Dr. Advaitham said that 54 classmates of 1960 first year MBBS batch had attended the get-together event at Hotel Fortune Pandian in the city along with their families and particularly with their grandchildren.

“We knew each other as teenagers. Today, we are all retired from various positions but continue to be active in our profession,” a cheerful Dr. Advaitham who is still one of the sought after gastroenterologists in this city, said.

Some of the students of 1960 batch did some excellent rural service by working in rural areas and became popular doctors.

Four members of that batch had come from the U.S. for the get together meeting on Saturday while one had come from Malaysia.

“Technically we had retired from service due to age. But all of us are active and our motto is work, work and work. More work more health and less work more diseases has to be remembered always,” Dr. Advaitham summed up.
