The in-service teachers were selected for the interview process through an entrance test which was conducted on August 21 this year. Totally 11,000 teachers had appeared for the test under the IGNOU Madurai Regional Centre (covering 17 districts), of whom 8,000 have been called for the interview. “We will admit 7,000 candidates. They will be attached to 70 B.Ed. colleges / learner support centres. The two-year course begins in the first week of January,” M.Shanmugham, Regional Director, IGNOU Madurai Regional Centre, said on Thursday.

“Admission counselling will be conducted at our Regional Centre campus in Sikkandarchavadi in Madurai from December 7 to 30 and intimation letters had been sent to eligible candidates. This region always evinced huge interest in our university's B.Ed. course,” Dr. Shanmugham said.
