A total of 77 cases were settled out of the 670 listed cases at the National Lok Adalat held at the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court on Saturday.
The total amount settled at the lok adalat, organised by the High Court Legal Services Committee, was ₹ 5.67 crore. A total of six panels comprising sitting and retired Madras High Court Judges, retired District Judges and advocates heard the listed cases.
Madras High Court Judges S.S. Sundar, M. Govindaraj, J. Nisha Banu, T. Krishnavalli, P.T. Asha and retired High Court Judge A.R. Ramalingam headed the panels at the High Court Bench. Retired District Judges R. Sadayandi, V.R. Boopalan, S. Udayan, V. Sivasubramanian, P. Mohandoss and P. Deivaraj formed part of the panel.
Advocates K. Samidurai, A. Haja Mohaideen, C. Jeyaindra Patel, S. Krishnamoorthy, M. Krishnaveni and P.R. Bala Subramanian completed the panel that heard cases relating to bank recovery, motor accident claims, labour disputes, electricity and water bills, matrimonial disputes, land acquisition cases and other service matters.
At the Lok adalat held at the District Court, out of the total 4,191 listed cases, 2,360 cases were settled. The total settled amount was ₹ 8.07 crore. The panels that heard the cases were headed by the Principal District Judge A. Nazeema Banu and the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate N. Vijayalakshmi.
Bank recovery cases, motor accident claims and matrimonial disputes were taken up for settlement.
