Driver was not in control of the vehicle, say passengers

Six persons, including a woman, were killed and 13 others injured when a TNSTC bus crashed against a stationary truck on the National Highway-7 near Murugampatti village here on Friday.

The police identified the four deceased as K. Seeniammal (65) of Kaladipatti village in Nilakottai block, G. Somasundaram (37) of Nachikurichi village in Sri Rangam in Tiruchi district, S. Benedict Sanjay (14) of Ammaiyanaickanur and V. Narayanan of Sundarapandipuram in Srivilliputhur in Virudhunagar district. Of the 13 injured, two grievously injured persons were referred to Madurai. Others were treated in Dindigul GH.

Police said the TNSTC bus coming from Madurai rammed the truck that had developed a technical fault and was parked on the right side of the lane on NH-7.

The right side of the bus was severely damaged and seats were completely damaged. Five passengers sitting on right side of the bus were killed on the spot and one person died on the way to hospital. Several passengers received injuries in the head and face. A Gandhigram Rural Institute woman employee, who travelled in the bus, told that the driver was not in control of the vehicle from the beginning. Collector T.G. Vinay visited the GH and checked treatment given to the injured.
