5,000 saplings distributed

Walker’s Club in K.K. Nagar along with Moral Resource and Research Foundation, Tiruchi, distributed 5,000 saplings to residents here on Sunday.

This is the first leg of the project and a total of 12,000 saplings will be distributed to the residents in a phased manner. Neem saplings were distributed to representatives from schools, colleges, residents’ associations and nature enthusiasts.

Speaking at the event, Corporation Commissioner S. Visakan said people must be held accountable for monitoring the growth of the saplings. The local body would deploy all resources to make the project successful, he said.

M. Vivekanandan, chairman of Moral Resource and Research Foundation, said people must focus on the concept of Miyawaki. According to the concept, it was possible to grow a variety of native species in a limited space and still have a have a mini forest, he said.

Club president A.A.G. Rajkumar and secretary P. Ponrajan were present.
