37 sovereigns, Rs. 1 lakh stolen

Jewels weighing 37 sovereigns and Rs. 1 lakh in cash were burgled from the house of a lorry operator at Viswashanti Nagar under Tallakulam police station limits on Thursday.

Police said that S. Kannan and his family were away on Wednesday evening when the incident occurred. The crime came to light when they returned home on Thursday.

The culprits had gained entry into the house by breaking open the window and laid their hands on the valuables. The police have lifted fingerprints from the scene of crime. Tallakulam police are investigating.
