3 held for temple burglary

The police have picked up three suspects in connection with a burglary in Sri Mutharamman Temple in the village.

They said Panneerselvam, 45, priest of Sri Mutharamman Temple at Thenthaamaraikulam, who came to the temple around 4 a.m. for regular rituals, found that the lock of main door of the temple had been broken and gold ornaments on the idol of Mutharamman were stolen.

He alerted village head Parthasarathi and a complaint was filed.

When the police, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police, Kanniyakumari, Bhaskaran, inspected the spot, they retrieved the footages from CCTV cameras installed in and outside the temple.

Five involved

The images showed that five persons, who entered the temple around 1 a.m., had turned the cameras towards the wall before stealing the ornaments.

Their efforts to break the chest, where 75 sovereigns of gold ornaments had been kept, had failed.

Based on the evidences the police could get from the images, three persons have been picked up for inquiry.
